I’ve always been on the slimmer side. At 29, when I got married, I weighed around 73 kg at a height of 5 ft 10.
Things changed after having children. Life became busier, my job was more sedentary, and I couldn’t exercise as much as I once did. Slowly but surely, the weight started creeping on. I would try different diets and workout plans from time to time, and while they worked temporarily, the results never lasted.
By 2023, I had reached my peak of unhealthiness. My weight was 104 kg, my blood pressure and cholesterol were high, and although I wasn’t diabetic, my sugar levels were elevated.
As a doctor, this was an eye-opener. I often talk to my patients about the importance of health, and I knew exactly what the cardiovascular risks were if I didn’t take action. With a young family, it became even more vital for me to make a change.
So, I started taking fitness seriously. I began running every single day — at least 4 kilometre without fail. Over the course of a year, I managed to bring my weight down to 87 kg. It was a 17 kg loss, achieved through discipline, diet, and sheer consistency. But then I plateaued. Despite my best efforts, I couldn’t lose much more. Slowly, my motivation slipped, and my weight crept back up to 93 kg, even though I kept running.
The truth was clear: while diet and exercise had helped me tremendously, my biggest challenge was my love for food — and snacking.
In February 2025, I made the decision to start a GLP-1 injection. I had seen the strong evidence from clinical trials and witnessed the positive results in my own patients. Almost immediately, something changed. The “food noise” in my head — that constant urge to eat unnecessarily — disappeared. I could still enjoy food, but in sensible portions, and my cravings for junk food simply vanished.
Seven months later, I’m still on a lower maintenance dose of Mounjaro. Alongside the medication, I’ve built discipline into my lifestyle: I continue to exercise regularly, eat a balanced diet, and stay focused on long-term health.
What I’ve learned is this: GLP-1 injections are a powerful tool, but they are not a shortcut. To truly see lasting results, they need to be paired with behavioral and lifestyle changes. For me, it’s been a partnership between science, discipline, and a renewed commitment to health.
